MODALITIES FOR SALE OF WHITE MAIZE FOR 2010/11 SEASON
Following the recent print media Gazette notice of intention to sale White maize by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA), the public is further, hereby, notified on the procedure for the sale of the maize on the local market with effect from Thursday, 30th December, 2010.
Local Market
The local market consists of the following purchase categories; millers, food processors, traders, processors of animal feed, brewers and rural communities domicile in Zambia. The sale of maize is meant for consumption in the local market.
1) Eligibility
Applicants should be registered business entities or individuals with financial capacity to procure maize from the Agency. Sales to individuals will be limited to five (5) bags per month per family.
2) Quantity of Commodities for Sale
The Agency has allocated 100,000 metric tons for sale on the local market for the month January, 2011. Subsequent allocations will be announced in due course.
3) Location of the maize
The maize being sold is available in all districts of Zambia and applicants should specify their preferred pick up location.
4) Selling Price of Commodities
For both the local and export markets the Agency will sell the maize Ex Warehouse (FOB) at USD200 or K1,000,000 per metric ton. Please note that the price will be reviewed from time to time in line with the prevailing market situation.
5) Payment method
Payment shall be strictly by Cash, Bank Manager’s cheque and/or Bank Transfer.
Clients are further advised to provide for at least four working days to allow for payment verification, collateral clearance and document processing by the FRA before they could collect their maize.
6) Method of Application
Prospective buyers shall apply in writing to the Agency at the addresses given below. The applications should be clearly marked, “Sale of maize for export” or “Local maize sale” and addressed to the Executive Director, Food Reserve Agency, Plot no. 7419, Manda Road, Industrial Area, Lusaka.
The Agency reserves the right to offer lesser quantities of maize than those applied for by applicants as the commodity offers shall be made subject to stock availability in a particular location.
The closing date for receipt of applications under both local and export markets is Friday; 14th January, 2011 at 17:00hrs.
